1. Unsubscribe from store emails on Sunday nights.

Here’s why it works well:

🧠 1. Clear head before the week starts

Sunday night is a natural reset point.

  • You’re mentally preparing for Monday

  • You’re more reflective and less impulsive

  • You can clearly see which emails are noise vs useful

That makes it easier to unsubscribe without fear of “missing out”.

📥 2. You’re reacting to a full inbox

By Sunday evening, your inbox usually shows:

  • Promotional clutter from the whole week

  • Repeated emails from the same stores

This pattern makes it obvious which brands are over-emailing — perfect timing to cut them.

⏱️ 3. Fewer immediate temptations

Retailers send most promotions Mon–Fri.

  • Sunday night = fewer flash sales

  • Less urgency language (“Ends tonight!”)

  • You’re less likely to re-subscribe or click offers

So unsubscribing sticks.

📉 4. Reduced impulse spending

Marketing emails are designed to trigger weeknight stress spending.
Removing them on Sunday:

  • Reduces weekday temptation

  • Lowers impulse purchases

  • Makes budgeting easier during the week

🧹 5. Weekly digital declutter habit

It pairs well with other Sunday habits:

  • Clearing to-do lists

  • Planning meals

  • Preparing clothes or schedules

Think of it as digital housekeeping.

2.

Don’t browse at stores for entertainment.
“Retail therapy” is something many people practise, but it actually makes financial problems worse, not better. Find other ways to entertain and de-stress, like going on hikes or giving yourself blocks of uninterrupted free time for hobbies.

3.

Use Your Local Library Or Community Lending Hub.
Your local library offers free books for loan, including many new releases and will save you spending money on buying new books. And if they don’t have a book you want, it’s often possible to order it, if it’s available from another library. And nowadays, you don’t even need to visit the library in person to borrow books – you can go online and borrow ebooks and audio books.
But did you know that many libraries, together with a growing number of local community lending hubs, allow you to borrow other things like DVDs and even tools and other equipment? Libraries also have free clubs, free-to-use computer workstations, presentations and other activities. There’s so much more to your local library than most people realise.

4. Host a “Swap Party”.

Trade clothes, books, or kitchen gadgets with friends and neighbours instead of buying new.

5. Pasta Water Re-purposed.

Use pasta water as a base for soups and bread dough
